Manchester and other things

A musical artist from very close to where I live had a shitty concert ending when a suicide bomber hit the venue and killed over 20 people; many of them children, and many still missing. No news of any affiliation with terrorist organizations at this time, or motive, but the fact remains that it happened and pretty much renders any "reasoning" behind it null and void.

I rewatched part 1 of the new Twin Peaks and it is definitely worth repeating this episodes after going through once. It gives perspective and makes this a little less bonkers (if that is possible of a Lynch film). I plan on watching the rest of the episodes as time permits.

I have been reading books less than 100 pages to help keep up with my challenge on Goodreads. Do you think that is cheating? I mean they are books. Those among them are:

That about covers it; two of these are still in process. Not sure what to move onto next. What are you reading?

i don't think that's cheating. i mean, a book is a book, right?

(actually i have the same reasoning: i've been reading a lot of poetry books, which goes by at a steady clip. they're still books, though!)

i've been meaning to watch twin peaks. i can't believe i haven't done so already...

I heard about that concert bombing. What's so odd is that is the plot of a Stephen King book. Kind of freaky.

I don't think it's cheating at all to read shorter books to meet your goal!

No way is that cheating. You've set yourself a mighty goal, grrl! Do you think listening audio book style is considered cheating?

haha okay I guess it's just not technically or literally reading then :P That's interesting about it effecting the brain the same. I like it 'cause it allows me to work or do whatever simultaneously.

Oh yeah, really good for long drives :)

That's a great article, thanks for linking it! READING > LISTENING = "…a hangover from prior school experiences." I do recall feeling pretty proud & excited for myself earning those stickers back then! Perhaps cheating will be when in the future, we are able to straight download books & information into our brains; Matrix style. @_@

I'm still chipping away at "Wuthering Heights". Been so busy lately.

Yes it is, thankfully. I am just really stretched on having time to read much. Or when I do get time to read than my mind is quiet enough to be able to focus well. Also, it is dense reading.

I think it's cheating when it's a book on tape. Lol. A person isn't reading the book but more just listening to it. I'd read the books and put a voice to everyone's voice as I picture it and I think someone reading you book isn't the same.

What is your goal on Goodreads? I think mine is like 65 books. I was going to go for 100 but I don't think I have that much time free.

I am so very sorry about Manchester. The world is a dark and strange place. My heart goes out to you :-(

I didn't feel that Julian Barnes's book was worthy of the Boomer Prize. I think it was the ending I didn't like. I only read erotica nowadays, as I'm too depressed and lonely to concentrate on anything else.
